As I indicated last week, I subscribed to a thread on Apple's support forum. This response came along today related to the SSD/wake from sleep issue:

So like I told you I returned my macbook air. Well I have a MacBook Pro 17'' and I just ordered a Crucial 128GB SSD, and installed it yesterday night into my MBP. Turns out now I have the same "long wake" issue.

I guess it's not the MacBook Airs that have the problem, it's the way Lion handles SSDs. I installed Snow Leopard on it just to see how it fairs, and it doesn't have this issue, so now I'm fairly certain this is actually a software issue with Lion v.s. a hardware issue with the new MBA's.

Which means... that should probably hound Apple at getting their SSD handling right in Lion. At least I now know what the problem is.

I think it's safe to say Lion has a lot more issues than just with sleep.

True, but since both the MacBook Air and Lion are new, we couldn't know for sure what was causing the sleep issue. With all the bug reports coming out, 10.7.1 can't come soon enough (followed by 10.7.2, 10.7.3...).

Anyway, I did report it to Apple here as an OS X bug.

I read a blog post that suggested re-selecting the startup disk within System Preferences helps with this issue. To be fair, after I did this, I haven't had it happen since.

Here's my fast conclusion:

Lion brings default TRIM for SSD's.

If it's SSD only problem, perhaps from time to time when it wakes up it just uses this function ?

10.6.8 brought TRIM to Apple SSDs, too, and didn't cause this.
