WalMart iPhone 3GS Question

Good morning! A friend of mine has decided that she would like the iPhone 3GS [She doesn't want to wait for the new one] and has decided to get it at Walmart. I'm not 100% sure on how the process works, and I was unable to find any info online. She is completely new to ATT and would be cancelling her Verizon contract today. Can she set everything up right at Walmart, including having her phone number transferred? Any help would be great.

If you phone Verizon and cancel they can't port your number. You cancel verizon's service when you port over during the signup process for ATT
