Want to copy DVD to DVD

I used Rip It! to copy a DVD to my hard drive and then "burn to DVD" using the Mac app. I then went to play it on my tabletop DVD player (Panasonic), but it did not recognize the DVD. Did I need to 'verify' or 'validate' the copy on my hard drive first? What step am I missing?
