Want to make my Dish Network Remote control my Mac Mini.

I want to use my Dish Network remote to control my Mac Mini running Plex. I know I could get a Harmony remote to control everything but I really like the feel of the Dish Remote.

My question is can you have the Mac Mini "Learn" an IR signal from a remote and assign it to a function? Since I don't use the VCR mode on my dish remote, I was hoping I could put my remote in VCR mode and then have buttons to certain things.

Not sure if Remote Buddy would allow you to do this or some other 3rd party software.

Any suggestions?

According to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3296 the Apple TV can learn non-Apple remotes. Does anybody know what plist stores the leaned IR codes? Perhaps it can be hacked to work on the Mini.

Will any of the harmony remotes work for something like Plex and Eye TV? Would I be able to launch either Plex or Eye TV using only the remote?

Hmm interesting. It seems that apple has made this feature available on an Apple TV but not a mini mac.
