I'm about to make the switch to apple (hopefully when the new ibooks come out!) but I am perplexed about connecting an ibook to an External monitor. Right now I have a crappy HP laptop which I use with a 19inch LCD. If I use the ibook will I only be able to 1024 res on a 19 inch ibook? Isn't there a way to turn off the ibook screen without hack and bump up the external monitor res? Or am I just wrong about everything?

Or if you are warry about the hack, any PowerBook can run an external monitor at higher resolutions...

The hack is just software based so it won't harm your system. The only reason the iBooks won't let you spawn is because of a limitation in the OS. The hack just tells the OS to ignore that limitation.

Stupid marketing.
