My friend has a vista desktop and i have an MBP (10.5). we want to connect each other's computers to share files but neither of our computers detect one another (and my computer detects xp computers fine). anyone know what the problem is? thanks

he might need to adjust his firewall settings to a lower level.
or to allow that specific IP/Computer to access beyond his firewall.

On vista, Run secpol.msc
Go to: Local Policies > Security Options

Find "Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level"
Change Setting from "Send NTLMv2 response only"
to
"Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated"
