I have a new 12 Pro Max on AT&T, which has spotty 5G coverage in my city (and none at my house). I looked at the Verizon 5G coverage map and it's much greater in my city and covers my neighborhood. What is the best way for me to get a Verizon SIM card and test 5G without going to Verizon and setting up an account? I just want to test before (if) committing to switching to Verizon from AT&T.

Other than finding a friend with an iPhone 12 on Verizon, next cheapest is probably signup for a Verizon Prepaid account.

I noticed Best Buy sells a Verizon Bring Your Own Device SIM kit - is that the prepaid option? Also, does the kit have a SIM that fits iPhone 12?

The Verizon 5G that's available more widely is sub-6 and not the mmwave band. It's coupled with LTE so depending on need/availability, it will switch between sub-6 or LTE. I've only seen mmwave band in the Lincoln Tunnel approach in NJ as well as in mid-town Manhattan. If you're not in a major city, you will most likely just see sub-6 and LTE.
