(Posting this to the MBP forum as there's no generic "Apple desktops" or "Apple Macs" forum. This should apply to all Macs however, not only MBP's).

On my 2021 16" (base config) I've been using Satechi USB-C Multiport V2 for wired Ethernet connection for some days to upload hundreds of Gigabytes to YouTube. (See https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSJ3JqZMyf0LDLNofpBtzow/videos if interested.) I connect to a Huawey B715 4G modem.

During this, I've noticed the following: the Satechi always(!!!!) loses the connection after transferring (uploading) about 6GBytes. Even when HDMI isn't connected and nothing else using the adapter. (Which, BTW, reduces the temperature of the adapter by around 2C degrees.) The problem immediately goes away by dis- and, then, reconnecting the adapter - for another about 6 Gbytes.

Not so with Apple's own TB2 - TB3 adapter connecting to Apple's the Ethernet adapter under exactly(!!!) the same circumstances. I've encountered absolutely no problems with the latter during the upload of all those Gigabytes.

That is, if you do want to have Ethernet connection but don't have / want to purchase the Apple adapter(s) and have the Satechi USB-C Multiport V2, be ready for this kind of problem. And remember: just dis/reconnect the Satechi adapter to reestablish the Ethernet connection!

if you check in the system console or in the terminal using tail -f /var/log/system.log more or less immediately after a disconnect - what was logged?

EDIT: try using a manually given IP.

Is your 16" a M1? I tried to buy this yesterday and it's the old style thunderbolt....

I purchased and have had good, stable performance with the below ethernet adapter on my 14" MBP:

I bought it because it uses the Realtek RTL8156B chipset which better supports the newer MBPs according to what I read in another thread.
