Wanted: place icons anywhere

Would anybody else like the ability to choose where icons are placed on the homescreen, as opposed to automatically falling into the "next" slot. This is similar to any computer desktop. Of course we would have the option for them to automatically fall into place by default, or let us place them. I know windows has this feature on their desktop.

I'm kinda bored by only being able to have the icons on the top of each page. It would be nice to be able to choose if we want them along the bottom, or top, or side, or around the edges... I feel like this is particularly useful now that we have pictures on our homescreen, because now we might want to place icons around the border to frame our pictures, or at least not block certain parts of the picture.

Has anybody else been thinking that this would be a good feature?

I have wanted this one for awhile now. I don't really want to be able to move them "anywhere" but just move them to the bottom with nothing else being above(hope that makes sense). I have 4 icons on my dock and 4 on my main screen and would love to move them right above the dock so you can see the background wallpaper alot better.

Jailbreak only it will work.

jailbreak when available ( sometime soon it seems) , and then use Iblank to add blank icons to fill in spaces on the homescreen. That way you can have your icons anywhere you want them.

There are jailbreak apps that allow you to place "blank icons" which are invisible and functionless on the homescreen so that you can "space out" your apps accordingly. Although, I have never heard of a hack that would allow you to place apps just anywhere. Complete freedom of motion... that's an interesting idea...

You can't just create a transparent icon?

I can't see why that wouldn't be an option, but personally, yuck. Will look like a desktop.. cluttered, unorganized. Again, just personal opinion, but I really like that the iPhone doesn't feel like a desktop or an old PPC or some other cluttered mobile OS.

lol Yeah...you can put them anywhere, it also suport widgets that can be place anywhere...

That and Google integration (gtalk, gvoice, Gbookmarks, etc) it is the only missing items to make my iPhone perfect. (unfortunately for me android hardware isn't all there yet) [note: I don't want hijack the thread with a "what is better android vs IOS, i am just letting the OP knows that this is available on other platform and I don;t see steve allowing that type of freedom on his devices)

with that said...i love my iDevices and if AT&T ever deliver my pre-order i will love my i4 as well...

Transparency isn't supported and you can no longer have icons without a name (or just composed of spaces).

Haha I just needed to see something different as I have the new bootrom and can't jb 4.0 yet and Ive Been stock for a few months. It works good all seemless and quick.
