Right then.... I've just got a new iPhone 4 so thought I'd play about with my old 3G and have a look at jailbraking it.

I have never done any jailbraking and having a quick read around it appears that you can't as of yet JB a iPhone 3GS on IOS4 but i'm unsure if you can JB a 3G with IOS4 ?!?!?!

If it's possible could someone please point me in the right direction.

Yeah with pwnage tool. this program lets you make a custom Ipsw.
Then you put the phone in DFU mode( Pwnage tool will help)
Once in DFU mode, open up Itunes and i should detect the Iphone
Click+ option and find the IPSW that you made and Pwnage tool
let it update
