War II BNE OSX 10.6+ How

You cannot run Warcraft II BNE on OSX 10.6+ in regular Mac mode.
The game must be run as a PC game which requires Bootcamp or Parallels
and some version of Windows preferably Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
There are other emulators available as well. On this iMac computer, Parallels
is running Windows 2000 SP4 and WarIIBNE runs great and the sound works!
(Warcraft II BNE for Windows 2.02 patch and game installed on MacOSX 10.6
Parallels instance of Windows 2000 SP4.)

Can't comment on multiplayer but the PC version works fine in Wineskin with Wine 1.2.2 for me.

I'd have to dig out my disc to be sure but with the BNE both Mac and PC versions were on the same CD I believe.

Somebody correct me if I am wrong but I thought Warcraft 2 was an MS-DOS game. Was there a Windows version as well?

I am running Warcraft 2 in Boxer myself and it works very well. The version I have includes the expansion as well but I am not sure if that means it is the Battlenet Edition or not.

Anyway, you sure can run it on OS X with Boxer if you get the MS-DOS version. It works great.

By the way, I don't know what year a Mac version would have released without going to look it up (sorry, too lazy) but the DOS version was 1996 so I presume a Mac release would have predated any version of OS X and been for a version of MacOS.

IIRC, the "BNE" means Battle.net edition, which would let you play on Blizzard's Battle.net service. That version, I think, was available for Windows.

I just checked my version and it doesn't support Battlenet. I have no idea if the DOS version ever did or not. It does support direct connect, modem and IPX. :D
