I don't know what exactly is happening but I and some of my friends have been getting random IM's from ppl we do not know. The convo starts off like this... "Hey, can you do me a favor?" When you ask the person who they are, they say "I'm a friend of Shiela's". then he/she gives you a link and asks you do click it and download it. It is my guess (and my friends) that it is some type of malicious file or something of the sort. If this happens to you immediately block this person. DO NOT RESPOND!

This person uses the AIM screen name of:

- Dude6694
- Vegito611
- Grunt6611

This is NOT a joke. DO NOT under any circumstances contact the above AIM SN's

Hah i don't know a Sheila, maybe there hackers should of used a more common name like John. This has been happening since dial up.

I've been getting MSNBC and CNN alerts in email, even though I have never registered with the sites. And I did some fishing into who it is thats sending them, impostors. Seems people are trying to invent new ways to spam and Phish.

I just started a conversation with one of the guys
I told him I was a friend of "sheila's"
then he sends me the link and I tell him I'm on a mac

w00t lol

It is common sense, do not talk to people who you do not know, the random people that I hate on AIM are the people who send me AIM messages saying "Hey [username-handle], somebody has an AIM crush on you, click here to find out who." I get exactly 24 a day, once an hour at the 14th minute of each hour, each time from a different person, I always block the person, but it is a different person each time. Very annoying.

Hmmm

Email spam is probably getting worst..I'm starting to think my email address was sold by the last website I signed up on.

or even worse...a friend catches a virus, and the virus poses as your friend and makes you click a link that gives you a virus. that happened to my pc, had to wipe it down and start over my hard drive because it was impossible to clean out.

Thanks for the information!
=D

This is the second time today I have seen this pic in a thread on here.
It was me both times, the opportunity came up in another thread yesterday, but this time it seemed like an even better opportunity.

Well I don't know about you, but I got a nice email from some poor Ethiopian woman worth $27 million who wanted me to marry her so she could move to the US and share her fortune...

..we lived happily ever after. Seriously.

This has been happening for years. Use a little common sense (and a Mac) and you'll be fine. ;)

see it that "and a Mac" part of the comment is the reason why I think Mac users are much more easy to target with a Trojan. They think they are invincible to viruses and what not because they use a Mac and common sense goes out the window.

Really rule of thumb is use common sense and do not download and run anything that you do not know what it is.

Yep, I signed up on one of those sites that you can download CD/DVD covers from and started getting some freaky spam emails (I will spare the details) all coming from Live/Hotmail. I've had email accounts in the past though that I never even used and still managed to get spam
