is the extended warrantee really necessary when buying a Mac? anyone have any eperience?

You are given one free year of service (90 days phone support) from the date of purchase. If at the end of that period you feel you'd like to purchase an additional 2 years of service you can do so with Applecare.

You do NOT have to purchase applecare when you buy the computer, it can be purchased nearly a year after the original purchase date.
eBay is also much cheaper for purchasing.

Your credit card may extend the warranty for free.

Also look at square trade warranties as they can provide accidental damage coverage.
