Hi,

My applecare is about to expire in June. I just had the battery on my Macbook 12" 2015 replaced under Applecare because it was at 38% after 2.5 years.

I ran coconutbattery and the battery is already at 97% design capacity after just 3 cycles. I usually run about a cycle a day but have keeping it juiced up using a RAV Powerbank 26800 mah PD when I am in my car.

(BTW, do external powerbanks damage the macbook battery? I had a service battery warning on my old battery. After getting the new battery I plugged in my old Anker 26800 using usb-a to usb-c and the next time I had bootup issues and had to bootup using ac adaptor. I also had to reset smc and pram as the clock showed the wrong time. I'm not sure if it was the Anker but the RAV works great with USB-C cable and 30W charge compared to the way lower Anker charge)

Will Apple do an out of warranty replacement if there is premature battery wear that brings the design capacity below 80%?

I have a macbook 2011 that just dipped below 80% after 7 years of usage. I used it on a daily basis from 2011-2015 and the cycle count is 407.

When I had a battery replaced by Apple years ago I think it had six months warranty, which I think applied from when it was supplied, irrespective of whether Applecare had run out in the six months.

I wouldn't be too concerned about 97% after 3 cycles. I have the impression it goes down faster early in its life then tends to slow down. It varies a few percent from day to day as well.

I have answered about battery packs in your separate thread.

I don't know if Apple would do an out of warranty repair when battery had dropped to 80%. Don't see why not since you are paying for it!
