Hi guys,

Might look at getting a MBP 13 2018 later this year. Will probably get the extended Apple care with it. Just a quick query about the extended coverage (you guys know about this much more than me).

If the device ever stops working properly due to normal causes as covered under the warranty (not CID), during the extended 3 years warranty (e.g. 2.5 years from now / when the current model isn't in stock anymore), and Apple offers a replacement - are the replacements usually refurb units? (I don't mind refurb as the Apple refurbs are normally v.high quality - just want to get an idea though).

Also, do the replacement unit only have a 90 days warranty (likely?) / or is it until the original warranty ends (in that case 6 months left of the 3 year? / or is it 1 year standard - for the replacement unit? (making the total warranty 3.5 years - though this feels unlikely?)

One last thing, if alternatively I get amazed by the 2020 MBP and decide to upgrade it - will either give the unit to a family member, or sell it off online (assuming at that time it has 1 year coverage left) - do they need my invoice, to access the warranty / as in is the warranty following the serial number (no need for invoice during warranty time?) / or do you need to have the invoice (conscious about giving the invoice with personal info, if I decide to sell it in the future).

(It's not the cheapest laptop I've had - just keen to know where I stand, if and when coverage is needed).

Thanks for your time,

If your machine was to break during the 3 year apple care warranty, it would be replaced with a reconditioned unit.

If/when this happens, your new MacBook carries on your Apple Care warranty. In effect, your Apple Care is transferred over to your new machine.

If that one was to develop a fault, you can get it swapped out again, and the process will continue until your Apple Care expires.

Most likely the unit would have multiple repairs attempts before replacing. It’s not cost effective to give away a computer.

Apple is not going to replace a unit if it stops working their will be at least 3 attempt to repair the same issue before another option is suggested.

Apple does not replace macs with reconditioned units, that is a lie, that is a myth. They either repair or replace as new.

Of course you'll need to be eligible for a replacement.
