I purchased my macbook pro in August of 2014 and just today the LCD screen halfway went out. Would the Apple One Year warranty cover that? Also, when asked, I did not purchase the Apple Care at the time of purchase.

You got ONE year from the date of purchase to buy AppleCare. Yes, standard warranty, will/should cover it. I forgot to buy Apple Care when I bought mine last week but I'll buy it before it expires next year no worries. Only for iPhone and iPad you need to buy at time of purchase. Not for Macs though.
