Warranty Question

I searched for an answer to this question and found several threads posing it but none offering a definite answer. Is the 1-year limited warranty on Apple products transferable? E.g. If I bought an iPod from an individual that purchased the unit new three months ago, would I be able to take advantage of the remaining nine months of warranty? Would I need to do anything to transfer the warranty?

I'm looking at an iPod on craigslist, still sealed in box. Will I be able to register the unit for warranty or not? If so, will I need any of the original sale information?
