I'm in the process of selling my unibody MB through craigslist right now. I bought the AppleCare warranty at the time that I purchased my MB and the potential buyer wants the serial number from me to verify with Apple that the AppleCare is still in effect. Is there anything that I can do to show him that the warranty is still good? Or is it safe to hand out the serial number to him?

Also, how easy is it to transfer the AppleCare over to him?

I haven't met with the buyer yet, we've just been emailing back and forth for a while now.

You could take a screenshot, blur the serial or portions of it.

Transferring Apple Care just requires you faxing Apple notification of the transaction.

Go to apple.com and enter your serial number there at the warranty page. You can do a screen shot. :) Command + Shift + 4. :)
Thanks :D

So it's safe if he sees the serial number before he buys it? I'm just worried that some personal information of mine is tied to the serial number...

Also, I heard the AppleCare is tied to the MB itself, regardless of who owns it. Is that true? What else needs to be done with transferring the warranty?

Ok, I'll blur half of it.

I can't find my sales receipt so I'll just go into my Apple store tomorrow.

Thanks :D

That is true, the warranty follows the computer. If you had someone's serial number what would you do with it? Nothing. That's what I thought. I can't see anything bad coming from him knowing it.

Yes, the Apple Care is tied to the serial.

Apple Care Terms & Conditions said:
6. Transfer of Plan
You may transfer this Plan to a new owner of the Covered Equipment by sending, faxing or e-
mailing notice of transfer to Apple Inc., ATTN: Agreement Administration, MS: 217AC, 2511 Laguna
Blvd, Elk Grove, CA 95758, U.S., fax number 916-399-7337 or agmts_transfer@apple.com,
respectively. You must provide the Plan Agreement Number, the serial numbers of the Covered
Equipment being transferred, proof of purchase of the Plan, and the name, address, telephone
number and email address of the new owner.

Called the Apple Store today, Genius Bar claims that it makes things a whole lot easier if you inform Apple.
Hmm. That would be kind of a pain to bring the buyer to the Apple store to show him that I'm transferring the warranty.

IF I have to do the fax thing, I would have to go to the store regardless to get my AppleCare registration number, as I have misplaced my receipt.

EDIT: Nvm, just found the receipt :p
