Is it a bad idea to buy off a new MBP off eBay b/c the individual sellers are not authorized resellers and thus you don't get a true receipt...meaning you're not covered by the standard 1-year Apple warranty? And if that's true, then you couldn't get AppleCare either?

Or is the PayPal receipt off the eBay purchase good enough for purposes of warranty and AppleCare?

AppleCare doesn't care if you don't have the receipt, the machine is stolen, or even that you are a terrorist from an apple hating organization.

All they do is check the serial number. If its good they will service your machine. Make sure its registered in your name though.

Apple will have a date recorded for the sale or the assumed sale of that machine and that's what they'll go by.....and that may or may not reflect the date YOU bought the thing off ebay.....it may well be the date the individual seller bought it from Apple.

As for applecare, if you buy it within what apple says is the 1st year, then you'll be able to buy the 2 year extension without a problem

Just be aware that they can deny a warranty claim if you don't have an original receipt. It does tell you in the agreement to hang onto it just in case. I had an issue with a display on a laptop that they wouldn't service because I didn't have an original receipt.

Yes, it's rare, but it's the first thing they'll do to avoid fixing something they consider "picky." I however, don't see an area of dead pixels the size of a grain of rice being "picky."

You'll be told by a lot of people to not worry about it, and you probably won't have to...just don't be surprised if they don't service something they consider to be small.

I wanted to buy applecare and my imac is still under warrenty until november, buy having bought it off ebay the guy had lost the receipt (honestly) and I dont think i can buy the extension as I dont have the original receipt, so Im not sure I could use the warrenty if anything happens to it.
