I might have jumped the gun yesterday but since upgrading my mac has had a slew of performance issues (after Spotlight has completed the indexing). I do have Blackmagic eGPU plugged in and two external displays as I always have had.

The Performance issues are the following...
  • the CPU is running hotter than ever before, fans run about 80% of the time (when before upgrading it would run for a couple minutes here and there).
  • Typing responses are delayed even in a normal rich text editor.
  • Activity Monitor shows something called contactsd and accountsd using a ton of CPU
  • The eGPU seems to be taking a lot more of the graphical work now. When I look in the GPU History window in Activity Monitor it's clearly being used more than before the upgrade.
  • if VSCode is open everything is slow.
Does anyone have any information about it? Should I wait for patches? Better to revert to my previous OS? Upgrade hardware to a new mac?

Thanks in advance for reading this.

I have been experiencing the same (2020 MBP Intel model) without external monitors plugged in. It isn't even funny. Fedora on my T460 is faster than that.

I have a 2019 16 inch i9, which was basically a lemon to start with, with cpu and gpu under load its guaranteed to throttle from the vrm temps. Further the integrated gpu is also notably weak. This had me sad until i disabled half the cpu and ran in single retina mode, and honestly it feels really sharp with godlike battery life.

So on this setup.. I wouldn't say its any worse than sonoma, though the issues everyone is having are true as well, bad quicklook etc.

The lastest passable macos for intel macs imo is ventura, i have a feeling i won't be deleting that partition any time soon.

ps. my machine at least i personally find unusable with retina mode... just saying, but i have expectations though..
