Was logged out of iMessage today and can't sign back in?

I noticed that my messages weren't going through, so I went into my account settings and I was logged out. When I try to log back in, it errors saying "Could not sign into iMessage. An error occurred during activation. Try again."

Anyone else having this problem right now? I haven't done anything different recently and it's working fine on my iPhone.

I am curious as to how imessage working on a mac/ipad.

Lets say it is enabaled on a phone but you do not use iCloud would that now allow iMessage to work on a pad/mac?
