Was the 17" screen flickering ever fixed?

Hi there, I am the proud owner of a 17" macbook pro, but I have always notice the screen flickering in dark rooms at lower brightness levels. I left the forums for a while. Has anything been done to fix this issue? It is still rather annoying.
