I'll be honest, I'm after a bit of reassurance. But only if it's genuine... so be kind but honest.

I just paid £747 on Mozillion for a 'like new' iPhone 15 Pro refurb with 99% battery and 12m warranty. Hoping to now trade in my iPhone 13 Mini for £200+ on music magpie (perfect condition but battery is 78%)... so all in cost is around £550.

That's not bad, right?

I guess the price might drop further next month when iPhone 16 is released. But the 99% battery was a big draw for me. I might consider trading it in for an iPhone 16 (not Pro) next year, when I know more about its specs.

Main reason for upgrade is battery + better camera for upcoming 6 months of travel.

You saved 25% off new, which is certainly a decent price. But the Devil's in the details.

Who did the "Refub"?
Was the battery, screen, etc replaced, and if so was it done properly (i.e. still water resistant, etc)?
Who is offering the warranty? Apple's warranty is 12 months from "original" sale date, so likely not Apple.
Are any replaced parts Apple Original or 3rd party?
Consumer Law coverage doesn't apply to resold goods, so that's worth something off the original price right there.

If you saved 25% and you like it then yes that’s a great deal. If you’re looking for reassurance, this is probably not the best place to get that because people are going to be very technical and find possible issues. Stop having buyers remorse because it’ll drive you crazy 😂

My recommendation is next time ask about it before making the purchase so it doesn’t cause you undo stress

I have 14 days to return it so keep the technicalities coming! :D Should arrive tomorrow/Tuesday.

Love details! Re:
  • Refurb - With Mozillion, sellers list their phones and when they sell, they send to Mozillion first so they can check its in the condition stated, and then they send on to the buyer. So I'm hoping it'll just be a fairly new phone someone has decided to ditch, rather than one that's been repaired, but we shall see when it arrives!
  • Is there a way for me to tell if things have been replaced? I think there's an app to look at the battery right? I seem to remember doing this once... Edit: Found a guide here.
  • Re warranty - I know the warranty (see para 11) isn't anything special but better than nothing... will be interesting to see what the original sale date is though when I get it. Serial number should provide that info, right?
  • Edit: Again, I'll use this guide to find out if any parts are replaced and whether they're Apple or 3rd party?
Thanks in advance!

Under general - about it tells you if there is an unknown or genuine part.

I have there in my 3year old 13mini a genuine battery replacement.
The display from ebay i did by myself. Which tells me is unknown.

So yes send it back if something is unknown.

My display is bad quality (dark, colors of and thicker). But cost me only 60€ instead of 280€ by apple.

That's a huge saving - I wonder what the profit margins are on apple screen replacements. Seems like such a rip off...

3rd party display or battery isn't necessarily a "problem" - but I'd want WAY more than 25% off.

You can use the s/n to see when coverage through Apple ends. Of course, warranty only covers the original display or battery - if those are replaced, yer on yer own.

The other thing to be concerned about, is Activation Lock. But you'll be able to figure that out quickly once you get the phone.

Fingers crossed they'll be originals and there's still a few months of warranty left... soon find out.

And thanks for heads up re Activation Lock. I'll follow Apple's guidance to ensure it's turned off!

I'd be extremely surprised if anything was refurbished at all. Even ebay now appends the word to used electronics auctions signifying nothing whatsoever.

"Seller refurbished" might as well mean they wiped it off with a rag before putting it in the box, or thought about doing so.
You’re right, sellers seem to be using it as a synonym for “second hand” - which I’m not fond of, personally. But, I only buy Apple devices directly from Apple (either new or Apple-refurb) so I guess I don’t have a horse in this race.

Alright it's arrived! So...
  • Warranty: Has Apple warranty left until 12 December 2024 - nice bonus.
  • Battery: 99% battery (though showing as 97.7% on coconut. Edit: seems to have now changed to 99.1% - see attached image). Manufactured by Sunwoda on 14 Nov 2023 (288 days old). First use & purchase date: Dec 2023. 163 cycles. No alert for non-genuine battery.
  • No water damage indicated - panel is white, no pink/red, in the sim card slot
  • No repairs - Parts and Service History section doesn't appear
  • No visible scratches - on body or screen
  • Unlocked - says No SIM restrictions
  • Everything working - checked everything listed here (as would have Mozillion)
So does indeed look like a well cared for 2nd hand phone, not a refurb!

Nothing else to check, right? I think it's a keeper? Need to decide today as flying out tomorrow! :D

Am I missing anything before I stick on a screen protector and case?

That's really all you can check for, I guess. The only other thing I can think of to worry about is blacklisting from a carrier as "Stolen" but I don't know of a way to check for that, other than trying to activate it on that carrier.

Thanks, have decided to keep it! Mozillion check for blacklisting :) Loving the camera and battery life, as hoped for!
