So I bought a nice wrap on slickwraps.com. Loved the design, but noticed my pictures with flash were now washed out. they have a perfect circle cut around the led flash.

I did a lot of investigation about this and have come to the conclusion that the light sensor is severely thrown off when a case or wrap is used.

I have a white i4, if you followed macrumors a lot, you probably heard the rumor that it was delayed due to paint inconsistencies causing the pictures to be washed out by the flash...

well I am going to guess that this is also the reason why apple uses a bumper case, because its not intrusive to the LED lens.

now you say that the cases/wraps with bigger holes around the lens/flash might not have this problem? wrong! verified this on my gf's i4 with a fairly large 'hole' around the LED lens.

i did a few experiments to test out my theory with just my finger across the width of the phone (started halfway and moved up slowly). Basically I think the light still bleeds through the paint and causes whatever is covering it up to be reflected back. You'll see the color of my finger reflecting back in the bottom of the photo. If you use a case/wrap then you probably get the white LED flash reflected back into the lens.. (which was the case for me.. as when i took off the wrap all pics were perfect again)

i really would like to see if black phones have the same issue. the paint is darker, maybe the light dosent bleed through the phone.

i took this with my other camera, kinda hard to capture but it shows just how much light is bleedin all over the damn place.

to me this suggests in order to get perfect pics with the flash, a case / wrap must use a cut out THAT big. not just the outer circle that touches the lens, but the entire ambient light around it.

lol
