washing machine; weard fix

reference 2013 vintage Maytag top loading:
consistently got a error code = "LF" half way into the wash and the machine shut down. To Long to Fill.

did the mighty googles search and a web site went through a long video how to change the inlet water valve but at the very bottom of possibilities it said the drain hose could be too long if the drain hose just slides into a wast pipe from the wall. I shortened the hose and the error code went away

just weird that could make a difference.

My guess is that the long drain pipe formed a siphon, and that kept on empying the tub while the machine was trying to refill it.
