Washington State train wreck

Really bad wreck with casualties, 13 out of 14 cars left the tracks, several landed on vehicles on interstate 5.
This was the inaugural run of a new high speed service from Seattle to Portland.

No surprise really when you see how badly it derailed around that curve.

It’s good to see railroads working on getting PTC in place but it’s a slow process. This is two major Amtrak incidents in a row that probably wouldn’t have happened with PTC. I’ll be interested to see how this one happened/why they were speeding.

That’s a shame. This will put more pressure on the railroads.

I made several Amtrak trips to Portland and other parts of Oregon in the past year, and am pretty sure I saw that particular Cascades train (parked at a station). So, when I saw the news about this derailment, it felt surreal. I also felt lucky.

I really hope this doesn't damage Amtrak's reputation and/or rail travel too much, because I think rail is the most fun way to travel. It would be a shame if that happened
