I absolutely hate the fact that all the controls on apps and websites is on the top and somehow you get a notification at the same time and it goes to that app and you don't know what the notification was even saying.

What is the point of the island? I have seen 0, ZERO, ZEROOOO use for it.

I have tons of uses for it. Timers, flights, quick access for music (yeah you can access it from control center but easier for me this way), etc.

Obvious main reason is to hide the Face ID sensors while providing some functionality with that area rather than have it do nothing.

"Wasn't the "island" supposed to take up the notifications so we don't click on a notification by accident on iPhones?"

I don't know who told you that but I've never seen anyone say this, and the Apple keynote and marketing and web site never said anything like this. And accidental taps on notifications can happen on all phones before the 14 Pro and on Android also.

The island is very convenient when playing audio, when on a call, etc. And again, it's not the island that causes your problems with notifications.

If it bothers you a lot, or if you are doing something important, just use do not disturb, so you will only see notifications when you pull down the notification center or when you are back on the lock screen. I have done that way before 14 Pro.

To hide the sensors in a fun way. It has no other point. Imo they're not changing up the OS much to accommodate for it because it's going to go when they get to under-display Face ID hardware.
