ABC has updated its Watch ABC Apple TV app to allow all Apple TV users to watch full episodes of ABC shows a week after they air without having to verify their TV provider. Previously, users had to sign in via their TV provider to watch any full episodes.
All Apple TV viewers can now access full episodes a week after they air. Like WATCH ABC for mobile devices and desktop, viewers can now watch such shows as ScandalHow to Get Away With MurderModern Familyblack-ishOnce Upon A Time and Castle, among others, a week after they air.  Sign in is required for ABC's live network feed and its most current episodes
However, users are only allowed to watch the five TV show episodes prior to the most current one. Users who sign in to the app with their TV provider gain the ability to watch full episodes of the last five episodes of any TV show the day after they air and live TV.

The app was also updated with a brand new look and a continuous play mode that automatically starts the next episode for the viewer, similar to the system Netflix uses in its apps.

Yes! The tide is shifting for a better user experience. Hopefully the mobile apps will follow, as I'm tired of having to enter my log-in info every two weeks.

YES!!!

Very unexpected, but nice that ABC finally came around.

Now if they would just drop the idea that they need to delay viewing for a week.

If you're from ABC, please explain the following:

Why 5 episodes only?
Why not ANY episode?
Why is it the same commercial 5 times in a row every commercial break.
Why not allow me to pay them $$ so I don't need to watch commercials.

I haven't yet downloaded this version, but I liked the original presentation in the App, but the latest (Metro look) is horrible and was buggy when switching from series to series. The description of the episodes were hidden. And the clips are lame... change them details within the episode description and make them "jumps" into the actual episode. If I like the clip, I might stick around for more of the show.

Yeah, the American version of ABC. Would be nice if Apple stepped out a little and took a look outside of North America fo rthe Apple TV apps.

So I still can not watch Agents of SHIELD Season 2 Episode 1-5 on Watch ABC only episode 6- current ones when I have cable how lame. So basically Watch ABC is a pointless app even if you have them on cable.

I am almost done with the series on Netflix and I wanted to catch up with second season on ABC what a fail.

I'm tired of having to identify what a channel really is. Is it streaming shows? Is it a collection of highlights? Is it simply an interactive ad filled with commercials? Does it need a cable subscription, third party account, or to be registered by visiting some url and entering a code? I don't even try these stores anymore because all they do is add addional steps and confusion to what should be the very simple and passive activity of watching tv.

Nice idea, but for the first time in my Apple TV history, the ABC app now crashes every 30 seconds. All the other apps are fine. Pretty big bummer, and a sign of what might be to come with an Apple TV app store?

Seriously. There needs to be some kind of universal sign-in across all channels on ATV. Tie it to Apple ID.

Doesn't seem to work outside the U.S.

So. Lame.

I suggest you change the title of this thread to ".. for All Users in the U.S.".

Forgive my ignorance, but why aren't other channel providing this?

In the UK, channel 4 has an on demand catchup service. There are ads before and during TV shows so they make just as much money.

Whether you view content via a cable box or the web, you can be served ads.

"All Apple TV viewers can now access full episodes a week after they air."

*All* Apple TV users? All Apple TV users =/= Apple TV users in the US.

US centric much?

Well ABC is an American broadcaster so its only fair .

There's not even a universal sign-in for Apps on iOS. They all require you to enter your email and generate a password. If not even iOS can provide third parties with a unique ID, i don't see how Apple TV can do it.

Ding!ding!ding!

Please sticky this response and attach to every post that complain about single sign on for ATV

I can't remember the last time I watched ABC television. Maybe it was some type of sporting event. Is there anything in their program lineup that even worth watching over the past few years? I've outgrown television and no longer watch it except for news and weather. The rest is all streaming through Netflix, youtube and others.
