My watch and guess Phone is not registering the work out on a thread mill... I did 4 miles on mill and phone in activity showed 2>... what am I doing wrong

A couple of questions.
1. Have you calibrated your AW/iPhone by running and/or walking with the use of the GPS? For best results, you need to do at least a 20 minute run and a a separate 20 minute walk using the Outdoor Walk/Run activities.
2. Do you have your height, weight and gender set correctly on your iPhone? For example, if your height is set incorrectly, your stride estimate will be wrong and you'll get more/less distance credit per step.
3. Are you swinging your arms naturally while you walk/run on the treadmill? Doesn't really apply to runs as much as walking on a treadmill. If you're holding the handles while walking, the AW can't count your steps as accurately.

I don't think Apple will ever acknoledge footpods because the stock apps don't support them. There are 3rd party apps that will integrate with footpods. I know that iSR works with the Stryd Powermeter. I would suspect that the Polar footpod works with the Polar app.
As long as it's BT, the AW will be able to connect. It's up to the app developers to support their own gear.

Are you telling your watch you’re doing a workout? It’s obviously not going to work via GPS distance.
