The iMac features a 24-inch 4.5K Retina Display, Apple's custom silicon M1 chip for improved performance, a new, ultra-slim design, and is available in a range of color options.

Ahead of the arrival of orders this Friday, Apple has provided some YouTube channels and media outlets with an early look at its new Apple silicon-powered desktop computer. We've rounded up some unboxing videos and first impressions below.

I got the base model iMac in blue for $1299

Apple’s website says that it’s going to be delivered to me between May 21 and May 27

This is replacing my 27 inch iMac that I got in 2014 and I’m really looking forward to running my applications on the new M1 processor which should be so much faster!

On a positive note: we can all agree the back is beautiful.
Well, it looks somewhat similar other iMacs, but with nice colours now instead of just silver (or Space Gray for the iMac Pro).

I do like the red and the orange as it would match my home office decor, but in terms of design language it's in many ways very similar to my existing iMacs.

The Apple logo on the back is too big. The shiny white bezels trade long-term usability for fleeting novelty. And the external PSU is a confusing choice with so many people using standing desks, monitor arms, and counter-level outlets.

Touch ID on the keyboard is an excellent addition, especially for fast user switching in a family environment.

I suppose it does have style, certainly more than the previous model, but it strikes me as a weird retro-future miss a la the PT Cruiser.

Thanks to Justines delight in sharing every detail, the true disappointment is that Apple didn’t seize this opportunity to move the lighting charging port on the Magic Mouse to anywhere other than the bottom of the mouse.

The glossy tops of these poor mice are forever doomed to scratching, and furthermore doomed to being unusable during the durations of charging the battery.

'Customers'.... or bloggers that got them for free?
These are review units that they have to return. I remember a few times where some of these bloggers would do an unboxing and review and say that they’ve ordered one different from what they’re reviewing.

For the example: One of them unboxed the M1 MBA base model, and in the video, they said they ordered the maxed out one and that they couldn’t wait for it; iJustine unboxing the AirTags and then saying she’s gonna order the ones with different emojis than the ones she was unboxing; another one where someone unboxed a MBP and said they ordered one but in space gray, etc.

All the colors are nice but I think I would regret any of them after a month, or I would want to trade one for another because I'm bored with it. So, my choice is "safe" silver.
