I use my watch for very few things other than time telling.

Controlling my lights is one of them.

It’s so frustrating because ever since Apple made Phillips delete the Hue app, the “Home” app and the “Shortcuts” app are my only choices.

These apps at random times just refuse to work. I have to restart the Watch to make it work. At by that point, I’ve used my phone or a physical switch to do what I wanted.

It’s not my hue hardware, because my iPhone works just fine.

But how annoying that there’s no solution for this. It happens on my series 3 and both of my series 5’s on 8.7.

Any ideas ?

have you rebooted your router and home hubs?

also is your phone close to the watch? if you're kinda far away in your home, it might be trying to bluetooth, but is just out of range.

My watch is almost constantly slower at homekit stuff than phone or HomePod (when the HomePod actually works), but maybe only a second or 3 slower than the phone.

also make sure your phone is connected to the home wifi, since your watch connects through the phone, having the phone off of your home network can add a few seconds to homekit response time.

Thanks for your suggestion about phone proximity to watch. I’ve never given that any thought when I’m at home, since the Watch is always connected to the home wifi. I’ll see if that makes any difference.

I will say it’s been a while since the last reset of all the router equipment, but I’m quite sure this problem existed before then.

It just always seems to work fine for a while … maybe half a day. And then just POOF stops working. I try cycling Wi-Fi on the Watch, I try cycling Bluetooth on the phone, just to diagnose the issue. But the only fix is a hard reset of the Watch.

I have found that my Siri light commands (to Satechi plugs) intermittently fail, most often from my HomePods. For some reason they lose their internet connection. Same thing with my watch, sometimes just doesn't work. iPhone almost always works and they all eventually start working again without intervention.

Random disconnects are common to the AW. The only fix is to ditch the watch and use the phone alone to control your life.
Really is a shame , but I’ve come to realize you’re right. I wonder why this is the case. Surely Apple employees who develop this encounter these issues. But they probably all wear 10k Rolexes instead.
