For quite a while, but thankfully not that often when my original stainless watch with metal chain strap touches the left side of the MacBook Pro the computer shuts down instantly. Restart normal and at same place. I usually use the computer while lying on my back the back is against my legs.

Anyone else have this problem? Any ideas as to what is happening?

It sounds like the magnetic latch that I think your chain strap has is activating the sleep function as if the screen closed. Magnets are used as the sensoring method when you shut the lid.
