Watch sometimes not getting notifications for iMessage

This is a recent thing that has only started happening in the last week or so.

I’ve noticed that sometimes when a message shows up, I am not getting a notification on my watch for it. I have not been able to track down the reason for it.

I use iMessage on my iPad, iPhone, and watch. When I’m on my iPad, I’ll see the message notification pop up at the top of the screen. Sometimes my watch will vibrate and the notification will be on the watch and sometimes it won’t. I have restarted all three devices in the last day and it does not seem to have made any difference. I checked the Watch settings app and everything is set up correctly for notifications. The messages do appear in the messages app on the watch when I go to it.

One of the things I have always loved about the watch is how consistent it is with notifications. But it’s not consistent anymore.

Does anyone have any idea on what could be going on?

Edit to say that I’ve noticed that I don’t have this issues if I shut off the iPad or if I turn off notifications on the iPad.

Not sure if it’s the same exact problem as you are experiencing, but over the years I’ve encountered periods of time when message notifications don’t seem to come in on my watch. Not sure what causes it, or how it gets resolved.

Same for me since the update. If I got to the watch app and toggle the settings on and off in message notifications it starts working again but it doesn’t last.  Watch 7
