For some reason, my watch is no longer notifying me (via haptic buzz or whatever) of new text messages (iMessages). I just upgraded to the iPhone 11 Pro and don’t know for sure if this problem started since repairing my watch to the new phone, or sometime after.

But I do know that I haven’t changed any settings that would cause this. I did check notifications for iMessages on both the iPhone and Watch app, and all are turned “on.” I made sure that in the Watch, it’s not mirroring the iPhone, but rather set to custom, with everything turned on for notifications.

Has anyone had this problem? Any suggestions?

You need the phone to be set to give an audio notification for the watch to be able to give an audio or haptic alert. If you turned off audio notifications for iMessage on the phone (Settings/Notifications/iMessages), they will be delivered silently to the watch, regardless of any other settings.

Same for other apps’s notifications.

Have you tried restarting both the phone and the watch?

No but that’s worth a shot, thanks.

I don’t want an audio notification. Just vibrate (either on the phone, if I’m not wearing my watch, or vibrate via haptic on the watch). So in that case, it it still cool for audio to be turned off?

Download a silent “sound” to use as a Messages alert tone instead of setting alert tone to None. For whatever reason in Apple’s wisdom, turning off an app’s alert sounds on the iPhone disables haptic alerts on the watch. Guess sound on phone = haptics on watch (even if you turn haptics and/or sound off on the watch).

Confusing and not user friendly at all.

Ok - that was it. I don’t mind having a sound on my phone (instead of “none”) as you said, because it’s usually set to vibrate (silent mode). I set the notification to a sound, and it now works.

Thank you!
