Apple today released the official trailer for the "heartfelt" and "hilarious" British comedy series "Trying," available to stream on Apple TV+ starting May 1.

Apple's description of the series:
"All Jason and Nikki want is a baby. But it's the one thing they just can't have. Starring Rafe Spall and Esther Smith, "Trying" is a new comedy series about growing up, settling down and finding someone to love.
The series, which hails from BBC Studios and is written by Andy Wolton, will be the first original series from the U.K. to debut on Apple TV+.

Apple TV+ is accessible through Apple's TV app on the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV, Mac, select Samsung and LG smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV, Roku, as well as online at tv.apple.com, for $4.99 per month with a seven-day free trial. Apple says its TV app will be available on select Sony and VIZIO smart TVs later this year.

This is the first trailer Apple original content that I found nice. All Apple original content I watched before this trailer was really bad.

Truth be told: I dont believe the acting ad characters.
Amazing Stories¡: too melodramatic

Everytime I see an apple trailer, the YouTube comments makes me think of this.

You should watch different series. You picked the two series which were on the lower end of Apple's output. Any of the November launch series, Servant, Little America, or Mythic Quest would be better representative of TV+.

"Amazing stories" released recently is an embarrassment. For Apple and for Spielberg. It's crazy how bad it is.
I thought it was excellent besides for episode 2 (episode 2 was bad - only because the ending stole the episode's emotional and narrative honesty. Way too cute). The other episodes (3 out of 4, so far): A bit predictable and definitely a lighter, family sensibility. But definitely not "bad."

this looks shockingly bad, and the trailer has that horrific American change in music they apply to EVERY trailer to make everything feel completely generic.
I think the show itself looks okay, but it looks like the trailer company got a British sitcom and tried to make it into a feelgood indie film about members of a quirky family slowly learneing to accept each other.

They're really shooting themselves in the foot this way. At least make comments available for shows. People get the word out and make buzz about shows and movies that way!
I disagree. Apple is likely smart to do this. The amount of Apple haters out there is insane. That comments section would have to be moderated intensely - if the forums/message boards elsewhere on the internet are any indication.

What happened to the apple tv series See about blind tribe? Have not watched apple tv in ages even if it free

Looks great; I’m looking forward to it. Apple TV+ Has been a great surprise with many enjoyable shows.

I’m surprised Apple hasn’t released a shot focused on China given it’s such a critical market for them. I’m sure there’s great reasons for this, but I’m surprised nevertheless.

That was funny.

But I just have that bad feeling you get when you see a trailer sometimes that they included all the funny jokes in the trailer. I hope not!

  • This show looks like it was perhaps partially inspired by Catastrophe, an absolutely brilliant American/British hybrid comedy on Amazon. If it is half as good as that series then we‘re in luck.
  • Apple doesn’t seem to have found its groove with trailers. I was not super excited by the trailers for most of their opening slate, but was pleasantly surprised buy a few of them once I watched the actual shows. I’m a filmmaker, but I have no expertise at all in trailers, so I am just spit bawling this. But it seems to me that the trailers are cut in an odd way. Some shots seem to linger too long, and the pacing seems strangely deliberate. I hope that they’re able to create more compelling trailers moving forward.
  • I’m curious if Apple has created some uniform dictate across all of it’s shows that they need to be shot in 4K or 8K with an eye towards being almost hyper-realistic, with revealing lighting, fewer shadows, and without film grain or other stylized “looks”. In a way, many of the productions look like they could be ads for a camera they are so clear and detailed. Anyone else notice this?

Hang on, so was this produced by Apple or by BBC who are licensing to Apple?
Apple doesn't really "produce" anything - they buy content and fund artists to create shows, which are then exclusive to TV+.

I agree with these excellent points except for point 3 - to a degree:

For All Mankind had a yellow tinge to it. Truth be Told had a blue filter and was not as clear. Servant was very dark/shadowy. See had a lot of dark and shadowy scenes.

But I definitely agree that Apple is angling for very high quality video and 4K/realistic filming.

The BBC spun off most of its production capabilities into a commercial business, BBC Studios. It competes for commissions like any other production company, either for The BBC or anyone else who needs TV shows.

Looks decent. Although if she threw that stranger’s phone into the water... she kinda is “BAD PEOPLE”.

Well, it seems a trend these days. Maybe moving away from film heritage? Some Netflix shows have extremely clear "video" image, particularly Asian ones.

Yeah, I have mixed feelings. I think each story should have its own look and feel, not everyone converging onto a single, hyper-realistic look.

This looks really fun! I can already predict almost the entire storyline but that doesn't matter as it's not the destination that matters, it's the journey along the way. Will definitely be checking this out, I'm sure my wife will love it too.

I just finished watching this and my wife and I absolutely loved it. It felt really genuine and we laughed a lot and cried a little. We’ve only watched two shows on AppleTV so far, this and For All Mankind and have been really impressed by both. Really top quality content.
