Watch trade-in timeline on new purchase (3-5 week shipping on new?)

Quick question. How does the watch trade-in work on a new 6 Series purchase with the current shipping times on the Series 6 in the 3-5 week timeframe? Does Apple want my existing Watch sent to them within 2 weeks of the new order leaving me *gasp* Watchless for 1-3 weeks until the new Series 6 ships?
