Watch V1 issue, is it my watch, or iPhone?

I can't tell if this is my watch, or my iPhone.

It locks with my iPhone right on my belt. It says it's disconnected, again, with my iPhone within reach. The temperature doesn't show consistently, usually not at all.

I have rebooted both. I reset the Apple Watch. I'm at a loss... How can I diagnose a problem like this. Someone isn't either talking loud enough, or listening well enough. Oh, and the iPhone is out of warranty and the inherited Apple Watch may not have AppleCare...

Yes. On the watch.

Worse comes to worse, you may have to set up as new.

Backed up, restored, no temperature. Bummer...

Changed the complications, no temperature.

All of the sudden, Temperature.

Five minutes later, no temperature...
