MP 7,1 Watching Blu-ray media on Mac Pro

Hi, I no longer have a TV and watch streaming on my iPad. I found that I still have a lot of legacy movies on blu-ray that I want to watch. I have the new Mac Pro and Pro Display. I know we can use the SuperDrive for DVDs.

But what is the best solution for watching blu-ray physical media on Macs? External BR/DVD player and software. I don’t want to buy a TV and blu ray player for the TV. THANKS!

AFAIK you can't watch commercial BR disks easily on a Mac.
Something to do with copy protection.
Which is probably why no Mac has ever had a br drive.

I am using BlueRays for years on my MP5.1 with great pleasure. I have replaced the original Super drive with one of the view apple blessed drives, an LG Wh16ns40 BlueRay Burner. Works absolutely flawless, but you can also use the one on OWC homepage. In terms of software player, my favorite BR player is the “Blu-ray Player Pro“ (Version 3.3.19).
For the upcoming swith to a MP 7.1, I will use an empty Mercury Pro Enclosure for that BR drive. This should work also on the 7.1 with a simple USB3.1 plug.

That's what I've been doing for over a year now. Blu-ray Player Pro + external BR drive that I yanked out of my old 5,1. No problems!
