First, I searched for a solution, but I don't have an external mouse or keyboard at the moment.

How do I shut the lid on my MBP or turn my laptop screen off when connected to another source? i.e. 46" Sony TV?

I just hate to let my screen burn while a 2 hour movie is going, and I could just lower the brightness to 0, but I just want to close the lid.

Everything I have read, you have to have an external mouse hooked up to wake the machine after closing the lid. Really? Apple didn't think of this use, of all things?

You can use InsomniaX to keep the MBP running while closing the lid. The backlight will remain on I think but at least for me there is no picture when watching videos in full screen on an external display.
