Wasn't sure what forum to use. I have a Macbook Pro and I frequently use it a few feet from my Tivo. I want to stream the video out from my Tivo, through a Canopus AVDC-55 capture unit I have, and into the MBP so I can watch the TV output while I work. Any idea on what software to use to view the Canopus output (which comes in via Firewire)? iMovie preview sees the video just fine, but preview does not have audio. I have a copy of VLC on my Windows machine at work that looks like it will accept a device input like this, but the version I have loaded for Mac does not appear to have this option (latest version 8.6). Quicktime I'm unsure about as that's $30 and then I don't know if I need the Mpeg2 plug in (another $20).
I don't need any PVR function. I don't need a TV tuner either as I just want what is on the Tivo at the moment. I have TiVo to go which handles recording from the Tivo. I just want the Macbook to act like a TV, but taking the input via Firewire. Surely there is a solution I'm missing here.
Thanks
