I have an AW5 and just updated my phone to an iPhone 17, which unfortunately comes with IOS 26. Ever since then there's been issues with the connection to the AW5, which can't be updated past WatchOS 10. When completely resetting the watch and re-pairing, connection seems stable for maybe half a day, then becomes intermittent, then just dies off completely. No amount of reboots of either device solves this.

I'm on my third complete reset now. Is this a known issue?

Is your Watch and/or its battery fully ok? I gave my mum my old AW SE1 which is aw5 almost. the same wos 10 etc. My mums iphone mini 12 has ios 26.0 i believe and everything's fine. but the AW has a new 3rd party battery so its 100% now. I havent seen any issues for the past 2 months.

No, in fact. The battery has apparently gone to **** following the iPhone upgrade. It may or may not be related, but battery life is horrible (like half a day). Two weeks ago it was one and a half days.

I passed on the old phone, so I can't go back and see if the AW5 battery just happened to fail at the same time that IOS 26 arrived, or if it's in fact IOS 26's fault, unfortunately.

It's an interesting point, though. Perhaps I should try replacing the battery and see if that makes a difference.
