I’m seeing a great deal on the SE1 (Cellular, $129 at Walmart) and thinking of buying it for my teen for health tracking, scheduling, and music. She has an iPhone.
With watchOS 10 right around the corner, is the SE1 still a good useable device? Anyone noticing bad lag on the beta?

The beta is running smoothly on my watch (I have the S7 tho, not the SE1). I think that the SE1 is a great device even in 2023, but you might not get the latest software update in 1-2 years. It’s not a big deal, but if you want a watch with a few years of OS support, I would look for something a bit more recent

The new watches that have just been released are only about 40 % faster than the CPU of the first gen SE so I doubt that there is any real difference between them using watchOS 10.

I just picked up one of the $129 SE 1st gen 1’s from Walmart last week. Free overnight delivery. It’s my first smart watch, but i am very happy with it In September 2023.

Battery health is 100%, and I can get all day without charging, but usually do when I am home and not using it. (I work at home). It came with watchOS 8 installed, but required me to install watchOS 9 to set it up. I have an iPhone XR.

i have noticed no appreciable lag, at least on watchOS 9.6.1 (so far).

I didn’t know it had such a great cycling app, but was blown away by it in the last few days on rides. I am considering upgrading to watchOS 10, because the cycling app on it is even better. but am waiting to see if the battery life gets sorted out soon. To upgrade to watchOS 10 you need at least an iPhone XR or newer.

its great not having to pull out my phone to check emails, and my reminders. The $129 deal came with a choice of both GPS + cellular, or just GPS so I got both, but am not I sure I will pay my provider the extra $10/mo to use cellular. Phone calls seem to work fine with it just paired to my phone. Might be nice to leave the iPhone at home on rides or workout days though.

BTW, they were out of the midnight color I wanted when I ordered it online, so I got a silver and blue. Then I checked back and the midnight was back in stock, so I ordered it. Returned the other one to my local Walmart store yesterday with no problems. I had not opened it. You have 30 days to return them To Walmart.

I considered picking up a used Apple Watch, but with a brand new battery and a 1 year Apple warranty, the $129 deal was a no brainer. I did check the Apple site with my serial number and the 1 year warranty is in effect as of my purchase date.

Plays my Apple tunes fine as well as Spotify. I pair it to my Powerbeats bluerooth headphones.

WatchOS 10 has been flawless on my SE1. Battery health is pretty dire at this point though (I’ve had mine since launch).
