WatchOS 6: Independent Apps?

Question, I understand in WatchOS 6 there are independent apps that can be installed from a watch app store. To do so, do you have to first uninstall an app if its been installed from the phone? For example, Carrot announced an independent app - do I first uninstall the instance of Carrot that was previously installed? Thanks.
