After watchOS 9.1 update, I experiencing bug with sleep focus. I have shortcut that change focus mode to sleep when I put my phone to charger. When sleep focus is activated from shortcut, display on my Apple Watch Ultra is still on and doesn't turn off like on watchOS 9.0.x. I need to change focus mode and activate sleep again from Watches.
Can anyone else confirm this?

Guy, I found workaround :)).
I just found that when I set Sleep focus, I can't switch to any other focus from shortcut. So I added to shortcut disable active focus first and then set different one.

I have always enabled some focus - personal, work, activity or sleep.

So I added to my sleep shortcut to check current focus, turn it off and then enable desired focus mode. It always work and always on display on AW is now turned off for sleep.

EDIT: Actually you can set any focus mode to disabled first and then set your desired one and it works.
Only thing is, that setting focus from shortcut takes longer time on other devices (Watch, Mac) than set it from iPhone focus toggles. I don't know why.

I can't try it right now, but maybe turning sleep on, then off, and back on would also work?

Yes, basically you need to first disable focus and then enable it. You don't need to do it 3 times.
I rewrite my shortcuts to first disable do not disturb mode and then enable my desired focus. Just tested it and all works great.

I don't know what is changed, but few days ago my "trick" stop working. Now I must every time when shortcut switch my focus mode do it again from Watch.

I have the same problem with my series 8 Cellular/GPS watch. Watch display doesn't turn off anymore if I activate Sleep focus using shortcut. It works if I select Sleep focus manually from the phone or the watch.

I tried the workaround described above, but unfortunately it doesn't work either. :(

The bug is still there, but I found another way to activate it properly, don’t know if it was there before today’s update, but instead of using “set focus” use “turn on sleepingMode” in the shortcuts app

To get it, when adding the shortcut search under apps and settings, you’ll find it at the bottom

Hmmm... for some reason I do not seem to have that option available.

I have already updated to 16.2.

“Set Focus” works for me, there is a small delay to mirror it on AW.

11Pro on iOS16.2 + AW8 on 9.2

Are you sure Watch > General > Focus > Mirror my iPhone is enabled?

Yes, "Mirror my iPhone" is enabled. And the Focus activates also on the watch. But the problem is still there, watch screen does not turn off like it should. It shows that it is on Sleep mode, but the screen stays on.

However, if the Sleep Focus is set manually from the phone, the watch screen turn off.

I owe you apologies.
You are right, it’s broken.

Only once I had Watch face turned into sleep mode somehow. In every other reproduction and even playing with Theater mode which turns screen off it does not trigger what expected.

About video - same as for Vesbis, it’s not there:

OK, after months with my "workaround" I tried it in latest iOS 16.3.1 and watchOS 9.3.1 and its finally fixed.

So it's not necessary to switch focus completly off before setting concrete focus mode any more.

Yes, it is now fixed with the latest OS updates. Sort of...

Now the sleep focus doesn't automatically turn off anymore in the morning when the alarm goes off.

As a one off thing the other evening I asked siri to ”turn sleep focus on” instead of doing it manually from control centre.
Although sleep stats were recorded as I expected, I noticed later that it was still ON even though the watch had beed on the charger…normally that’s sufficient to switch focus OFF.
