I just saw that on the top back side of my 11 Pro a little bit of the isolation between the glass and the steel frame seems to be missing. It is about 1mm or less (see really bad picture below) and seems to be only o n top You can barely see it with the naked eye. I checked my Ipads and two of them have similar marks - Maybe this is from assembly?
Is this something to worry about concerning water and dust resistance or just cosmetic and forget about it. THX for your help.

Mine’s smooth. I would take it to an Apple Store and make it clear to the blue-shirt dude there that you brought this to Apple’s attention and that if the phone gets water damage it’s their fault.

Usually, I’d say you’re overthinking this, but my first iPhone 7 Plus got water damaged and I later found out the cause was the little insulating rubber band around the SIM tray was twisted and let water in. Could be the case on your phone...

What do you think by "overthinking"? Exaggerating?

Short update: Use an extra strong magnifier - the is no rubber isolation on the back of the 11 Pro. Instead there is a tiny tiny piece of the glass missing. Looks like it is only cosmetic so Apple won't do anything about it anyway. What do you think?

hard to tell if it would impact dust/water exposure, but you paid top price, I would bring it back

Just found out that a tiny tiny fraction of the glass from my 11Pro in the upper right corner, where the glass meets the steel band is missing (see really bad picture below). It looks like the glass has not been cut properly. It is less than 1 mm wide and you need a magnifier to see it properly. Otherwise the phone is fine. I am already on my third phone (1st one had a ton of dust in all three lenses 2nd a scratched camera lens out of the box.) Do you think this is only cosmetic or does it affect the dust and water resistance? I guess Apple will not exchange it since it is only a cosmetic defect. Thx for your opinion.

Hmmm...

Yeah this would definitely have me worrying about the water and dust resistance of the phone, and it would also have me wishing I’d never noticed it, lol.

Take it back and see what can be done, these phones aren’t cheap at all.

Yeah I'd be glad if I never had noticed. I am going to keep it. Checked it and it is not going too deep. It is just within the glass so water and dust resistance should be fine.
