Now, first off - I just want to say upfront that this has not actually happened to me, but to a couple of my friends.

Two of them went to the genius bar to get their iPhones replaced. Both of their vibe switches tore off from taking it in and out of the Speck Candyshell case - an issue which Apple does replace the phone for (at least they did for me). In both cases, the geniuses refused the replacement b/c the sensor in the headphone jack (but not the sensor under the dock connector) had a smallish red dot.

Now, I KNOW that there are tons of people out there who get their phones wet and then feign shock when the genius informs them that their phones have been exposed to water. But in these two cases - I'm pretty sure that they are telling the truth, that their phones never got wet. Also, their phones were both working (and still are working) 100% with no problems.

So if you buy that (which you should), then it seems like either their phones got wet without them knowing through everyday use (sweating into it, humidity, etc..) or the sensors are just kinda crappy. Either way - that seems a little unfair-ish.

Does anyone know anything about these sensors, or about the chemistry of how those things work? Has anyone else experienced this?
