Water damaged Iphone 3gs

hello,
I was given a free water damage 3gs today and the owner said it was not turned on in months after drop it was very slight he put it in a bag of rice and left it there for a month. So I check it out the water indicators are orange so water got in. But I noticed when I turn it on for the first time since this happen apple logo and than usb to itunes logo. So will the phone work with a update?

Never been unlocked currently has
3.1.3

so any suggestions would be great

also should I fully restore update it with current fw from itunes?

Did you connect it to your PC/Mac and did Itunes detect it? if Itunes dectects it and ask to update firmware, then it might be updated it. Sometime, when the iphone has water damage it will not detect by Itunes/pc and therefore, you can't update or do anything with it.

yes just connected it and download software screen lit up and software is now loading to the phone.

just finished up and said phone will restart and restore will be complete, so it did that and restarted and said iphone in recovery mode and needs to be updated with itunes?
Not sure why it says this because this was just done

Very weird. Can you use Tiny umbrella to kick it out of recovery and see what happen?

99.9 percent perfect working order
but when I go to turn on the camera the shutter just stays closed
any solutions for this problem?

figured it out
i had to take the phone apart again and adjust the camera works perfect now

so I am now sitting at
a usable iphone that works that was damaged!
for freeee!!!!
