The water lock doesn’t make the watch lock out water. It locks the screen from activating. And then expels excess water from the speakers when unlocking.
 
No software can magically repel water ingress. Your Apple Watch will remain water resistant during shower nonetheless. I would still suggest you put watch off to recharge though, cause shampoo, conditioner and alike may damage your Watch more than water if they get in.
