Hello all,
I am trying to figure out a way to salvage my laptop from water damage and was hoping someone could advise me on whether my actions are sound. I've spent hours searching online, but there are so many opinions, I'm unsure of how to proceed exactly.
An explanation and my actions so far: My boyfriend dropped about 1 or 2 oz. of water on my 13 inch MacBook (purchased in March 2009) , which splashed all over the monitor and keyboard. The laptop was on at the time with a video playing. It did not shut off, and the video continued playing. In panic mode, I flipped it upside down, tried to pat excess water with a towel, and unplugged the charger. I then ran to the blow dryer and started drying off the monitor and keyboard, which I now know was a terrible idea. The video began to pause and play intermittently, and the mouse track started to move on its own all over the screen. I calmed down and started researching solutions on my bf's phone. The general consensus as far as I could gather was to shut off the laptop and remove the battery, which I did. At most, five minutes had passed since the spillage.
I now have it open propped upside down like a triangle in a garbage bag with a couple cups of rice. It's not submerged in the rice but gently placed on top of it. I'm now about to head to wal-mart to find screwdrivers to open up the case, so it will maybe dry more thoroughly.
It is imperative that I do everything I can to save my laptop. We literally just finished paying thousands of dollars in medical bills today and have more on the way. I have absolutely no extra funds I could use to send it to a professional repair service or purchase a new laptop. I also make my living as a freelance writer, and this laptop was the remaining functioning computer in my house after my bf dropped his MacBook pro some months ago. I'm freaking out right now because I need this laptop to make a living. Are there any further measures I could take to save my computer and what do you think my chances are of salvaging it on my own? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
