My buddy has an iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1.1 and is wanting to jailbreak his phone. First, is it possible? Could revert back to 5.0.1 and then jailbreak it?

So just to clarify, he can download the 5.0.1 ipsw, restore to that firmware thru iTunes or Tiny Umbrella? Then use redsnow to jailbreak?

Depends if he saved the blobs and apticket. If you don't know what those are then search it.
to clarify if he has shsh blobs he can downgrade to 5.0.1 if you or he don't know what blobs are you don't have them. then 5.1.1 tethered is the only jb option he has. really it's not difficult a little searching will get all your answers.

haha you guys are a riot. I know what the shsh blobs are, he does not. I advised him aginast doing a tethered JB. His phone has never been JB. I tried doing a search, but with the flood of threads on here, it's a little difficult at times to find the exact answer. Figured I'd try and get the answers i was looking for in once place...
So if his phone has never been JB, he can't simply restore his phone to 5.0.1 then JB it?
